PROFILE

Chizuko Kida
Living in Kanagawa Prefecture

I was born in Shinjuku, Tokyo in 1956. I moved to Akita Prefecture when I was nine years old due to my father’s job transfer and I had lived there for three years. I remember the days when I played around the mountains there very well. Such experiences made me a lover of climbing mountains. I graduated from Waseda University in faculty of Letters in 1978. I learned drawing and oil painting at the art club of the university. I got a job at an advertising company. I finished a correspondence course of Japanese literature at Hosei University while working. I hadn’t had time for painting since I had been busy raising children and working as a teacher of Japanese classical literature at a high school.

In 1999, I visited Zenkoji Temple after climbing Mt. Myoko. Then I had an opportunity to appreciate Higashiyama Kaii’s works at Shinano Art Museum and I was deeply impressed by them. I took a correspondence course in Japanese painting in 2001 and learned it by myself since then. I admire Higashiyama Kaii and Hishida Shunso as my mentor. I retired due to my illness and moved to the foot of Mt. Tanzawa in 2009. I got my small studio.
